SICE participates in the C-ITS Platform second phase for the deployment of cooperative intelligent transport systems

SICE actively participates in the European Platform for the deployment of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS Platform), representing Orgalime, an organization that brings together mechanical, electrical and electronics industry from 23 European countries and more than 130,000 companies.

This Platform officially endorsed its final report on Thursday 21 January including deployment scenarios of cooperative services as well as recommended actions to undertake. After these results, the platform confronts a second phase, which began last April 25 in Amsterdam.

Cooperative systems are a group of technologies and applications that allow data Exchange via Wireless technologies between the elements and transport system actors: between vehicles (V2V) or between vehicles and infrastructure (V2I). Thus, the technology can improve road safety through avoiding collisions, but also assist in reducing congestion and improving traffic flows and reduce environmental impacts.
In the second phase, it is remarkable the incorporation of autonomous driving to the platform scope. Connected and automated driving are intimately linked, and cannot be understood one without the other in order to get the most possible benefits for transport and society. Special interest in the relation of infrastructure with road safety will be performed.
The expected outcome of the second phase of the C-ITS Platform is a Final Report, consolidating the conclusions and recommendations on the different work packages. This report is tentatively expected to be ready by September 2017.
